BCThubs is an EU-funded project under the Horizon Europe program of the European Commission. Spanning three years, it involves 15 partners from Greece, Malta, Bulgaria, and Italy. The project’s goal is to establish Blue Culture Technology Excellence Hubs in the participating Widening countries (Greece, Bulgaria, and Malta). These hubs will serve as permanent structures that provide innovative solutions and products for the sustainable protection, restoration, valorization, management, accessibility, and promotion of Underwater Cultural Heritage (UWCH).
Designed to operate regionally while fostering national and international synergies, the hubs aim for cross-border collaborations that transcend regional boundaries to achieve common strategic goals and enhance value chains. Each Excellence Hub will integrate all regional and national stakeholders related to Blue Culture and UWCH—including academia, businesses, the public sector, and societal actors (employing a 4-helix approach)—to boost their capacities and effectiveness. This collaborative effort seeks to elevate innovation excellence in the sustainable Blue Economy and Culture within their respective regions.
